How It Works

Ez Grade Calculator uses a weighted average algorithm to calculate your overall grade based on individual assignment scores and their respective weights.

The Weighted Average Formula

Weighted Grade = Σ(Score × Weight) / Σ(Weight)

Step-by-Step Calculation

1

Convert to Percentages

Each assignment score is converted: (Score / Max Score) × 100

2

Apply Weights

Multiply each percentage by its weight

3

Normalize (if needed)

If weights don't sum to 100%, they are proportionally adjusted

4

Calculate Average

Sum all weighted scores and divide by total weight

Example Calculation

Let's say you have:

  • • Homework: 85/100 (20% weight)
  • • Midterm: 78/100 (30% weight)
  • • Final: 92/100 (50% weight)
Homework: (85/100) × 100 = 85% → 85 × 0.20 = 17.0
Midterm: (78/100) × 100 = 78% → 78 × 0.30 = 23.4
Final: (92/100) × 100 = 92% → 92 × 0.50 = 46.0
Total: 17.0 + 23.4 + 46.0 = 86.4%

What-If Simulator

The What-If Simulator helps you determine what score you need on your final exam to achieve a target grade. It's perfect for planning ahead and setting realistic goals.

Reverse Calculation Formula

Given:

  • • Current Grade (C)
  • • Current Weight (W₁)
  • • Target Grade (T)
  • • Final Exam Weight (W₂)

Required Score (R) is calculated as:

R = (T × 100 - C × W₁) / W₂

The simulator even tells you if your goal is easy, achievable, challenging, or impossible based on the required score!

Accuracy & Reliability

Our calculation algorithms are designed to be accurate, reliable, and handle edge cases properly.

Mathematically Verified

Based on standard weighted average formulas used in education

Edge-Case Tested

Handles incomplete assignments, non-standard weights, and rounding

Real-Time Validated

Calculations update instantly with input validation

Precision Maintained

Uses floating-point arithmetic with proper rounding (2 decimal places)

Note: While we strive for accuracy, always verify important grade calculations with your instructor or institution's official grading system.
